I am not a politician and have no aspirations to higher office. I will never need to kow-tow to the Mayor, her administration, or any special interest group.
As an ANC Commissioner I will try my best to do the following:
• I will work to bring democracy and true representation back to Chevy Chase by soliciting my constituents’ opinions through regular contact and representing their desires.
• I will endeavor to inform and educate my constituents.
• At ANC meetings and other public forums, I advocate for more public participation — not less. I support spirited give and take, discussions, arguments, open mics, long meetings during which everyone can have their say, and open Comments Sections for hybrid and Zoom meetings. I am not afraid of out-in-the-open dissension and argument.
• Chevy Chase residents first! Special interest groups have been allowed to take over. I favor limiting the involvement and participation of special interest groups in the business of Chevy Chase, including at ANC meetings which are for the residents of Chevy Chase.
• I will give increased consideration to those whose views heretofore have been suppressed and/or ignored by the former ANC and the Mayor’s administration.
• Unless it’s a true emergency, I will not advocate for, or approve, something for my neighbors’ homes or immediate neighborhoods that I would find to be unacceptable for my own home or immediate neighborhood. “Do unto others as you yourself would like to be treated” is a maxim that should apply to elected officials just as it applies to the rest of us.
• With regard to matters of public health and safety, I will rely on science and expert opinion and vote to protect my neighborhood.
• I will act to protect the interests of all members of our community from age 1 to 100, and will not approve projects that will harm any one segment of our population be it the disabled, the elderly, small business owners, and so on.
• I believe the needs of our environment are as important as the needs of our residents, and so I will also act in the best interests of the flora and fauna, as well as the air, water, and climate, here — which, in turn, will also serve the best interests of residents.
The oath administered to all ANC Commissioners at the start of their term requires them to act in the best interests of the City. I believe that by representing the concerns and desires of the residents of Chevy Chase I will be acting in the best interests of the City.
